The R 20,000 Nat Nakasa Award for Media Integrity (for South African journalists/ editors)

The Print Media South Africa Awards Committee, SANEF and the Nieman Society of Southern Africa are calling for nominations for the 2011 Nat Nakasa award for Media Integrity.

Nat Nakasa was a prominent journalist and writer who died in exile. This annual award recognises any media practitioner – journalist, editor, manager or owner – who has:

Shown integrity and reported fearlessly; Displayed a commitment to serve the people of South Africa; Tenaciously striven to maintain a publication or other medium despite insurmountable obstacles; Resisted any censorship; Shown courage in making information available to the SA public; or Any combination of the above.

The Award is open to all journalists irrespective of whether they serve a community or national newspaper, magazine or an electronic medium (including online publishers). The winner will receive R20 000 in prize money and a certificate.

Previous winners include Jon Qwelane, Mzilikazi wa Africa, Andre Jurgens, Jessica Bezuidenhout, Justin Arenstein, Alf Kumalo, Guy Berger, Jacques Pauw, Max du Preez, Greg Marinovich and Terry Bell.

Nominations, with a 300 word motivation, must be submitted by May 31, to: malesedid@printmedia.org.za or drop them off at 2nd Floor, 7 St Davids, St Davids Office Park, PARKTOWN for the attention of Malesedi Dlamini.
