South Africa’s ADHD Awareness Day is on September 14th 2011. This year it’s on a Friday and we’ve some exciting things planned for the weekend following. We’re working on it and will tell you more about it soon.
For us it’s important to create and even greater awareness of ADHD – this means that people affected will be better understood and accommodated at school or work. We have also used this opportunity to help people recognize that people with ADHD have some amazing strengths, and can achieve. This message, sent out via the essay and art competitions, has already had a tremendous impact on many children. Their parents have phoned to thank us.
The art competition has closed and some of the works can be seen on the ADHASA facebook. Have a look – it’s amazing what these children have produced! Part of awareness weekend will be an event during which we will be exhibiting all the entries for both the art and the poetry competitions, and prizes will be awarded.
You read correctly – it’s now time for our poetry competition!
We’re inviting all school children to take part in the ADHASA Poetry Competition 2011. Write a poem showing how ADHD can be to your advantage – how the different (positive) symptoms of ADHD can help you and enter into our competition.
There are great prizes to be won and winning entries will be published in our book entitled: PROUD TO BE ADHD.
We’ve had several requests from adults wanting to take part in our competitions – so please go ahead. Send in your entries too. Entrance fee is R20.
