This event aims to encourage and reward literary talent. Participants would be drawn from all schools within the state. The first twenty schools to send in entries will qualify for this competition.
Writers of the best 50 entries from the competition would be invited to participate at the literary festival, while the top 3 would be given special awards at the event for children on Saturday 17th September at Hotel Presidential.
Theme for the Competition
§ The theme for this competition is “A day I will never forget!”
Format of Entries
- Entries would be submitted by the school, no individual entry would be accepted.
- Each school would select 10 pupils to write an essay of 500 words on the above topic.
- Entries must not be less than or more than 10.
- Each submission shall be in (clear) handwriting with the name, age, gender, class and school of the pupil boldly written on the top of the paper.
- Each school would submit its entries in an envelope having the name / details of the school clearly written at the back.
- A participant is entitled to one submission only. Multiple entries by one participant will lead to disqualification.
Prizes to be won
Entries would be assessed by the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Rivers State and the best three shall be given prizes.
1st prize: Laptop & a bag of books.
2nd prize: Small library shelf of books.
3rd prize: Educative materials & a bag of books.
Eligibility for Participation
This competition is open to Senior Primary School Pupils in Rivers State.
Deadline and Mode of Submission
Submission of entries must be by 18th July 2011. Entries received after this date shall not be considered.
All entries must be handwritten and submitted by the school, in an envelope with a clear indication of the subject as ESSAY COMPETITION on it. The name of the school making the submission, contact person and phone number should be clearly written at the back of the envelope.

Presentation of Prizes & Publication of Winning Entries
Prizes will be presented to winners on Saturday 17th September at Hotel Presidential.
In the exercise the judges’ decision shall be final.
