Purpose
The government in its bid to serve the people of Delta state better has created this section to feel the pulse of the people to know what type of Delta state they have in mind in the area of development, new ideas and things that will move the State forward.
The Delta state government has done a lot in terms of development ,they are still doing more and will do a lot more ,people can be part of the this development process by also suggesting new ways of making things better in the State.
Delta of my dreams is meant to generate new ideas from the online community and encourage people to be part of the positive change for a new Delta state at 20.
Essay Criteria
Essays will be graded (phase 2) on :
- Structure and coherence
- Originality
- Creativity
- The use of thoughtful and concrete examples.
- Ideas presented
Prerequisite- All Entrants must be a verifiable indigene of Delta State
Length and format
- All work must be submitted by individuals, group work is not allowed.
- All submissions must be made online via the Competition website.
- Your essay may not be longer than 2000 words (about 4 pages of standard text).
How to submit your entry

- Click on Submit an Entry
- Upload your write up (maximum of 2000 words ) – all write ups are available in the public domain
- Get your friends to vote for your entry.
Choosing the Winner
This campaign will consist of 3 phases.
Phase 1:
- Users can submit their entry on the website. Note: all entries can be viewed publicly and voted for by the public.
- The general public is invited to vote on their favourite entry. Users can vote once per day.
- The writers can also campaign for votes during this stage to their friends via any appropriate means.
- The top 20 listing in this stage in terms of vote will be shortlisted and presented to the judges.
*entries once submitted cannot be edited . Users may however submit multiple entries.
Phase 2 :
- The top 20 entries will be presented to a panel of judges who will shortlist the the top 5 entries
- Please note that the shortlisting process will not take into consideration the votes accrued in Phase 1.
- Shortlisting will be based on the criterias as indicated above.
Phase 3: Final voting round on Facebook .
- The panel of judges will present the top 5 (shortlisted from the top 20) to the general public for the final voting
- The top 5 entries will be published as notes on facebook.com/euduaghan .
- The winning entry will be the one that gathers the most number of “likes” on facebook .
- The winner of this will be invited to the Delta @ 20 Gala night where the prize will be presented.
Competition Rules
- Submissions will be accepted as stipulated on the competition guideline.
- Entries may not be corrected after submission. However, participants can submit multiple entries. Votes of multiple entries for 1 participant will not be merged.
- The essay competition is open for all indigenes of Delta State, Nigeria, students and non-students alike.
- Submissions will be accepted until midnight 15th August
- Essays must not be longer than 2,000 words.
- Essay Submissions can only be made online, in English. Each participant must fill in a submission form on the Essay Competition website.
- Quotes and references must be clearly marked throughout the essay and properly cited.
- All submissions will be blind reviewed. References to specific individuals, firms, or schools, which might reveal the author's identity, are discouraged. It is not allowed to indicate your name anywhere on your work. (apart from the registration details required prior to submission)
- All submissions must be original. No previously published material will be accepted. Any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification. Please note that all essays will be screened with specialized software to verify plagiarism.
- Essays are accepted in the .doc or .pdf format.
- The decision of the Jury is final and is not subject to an appeal.
User verification of phone number and LGA will be done at the stage of shortlisting candidates.
We reserve the right to publish and/or to make available to the public the winning submissions. We also reserves the right to modify the format and content of the submissions for publication purposes.
This competitions is valid between 7th August & 27th August 2011. Active / paid staff (term or open-ended) of partner organizations associated with this Delta @ 20 celebration competition are not eligible to participate.
Terms & Conditions
By submitting an entry, you grant us the right to your write up in its entirety.
To enter a competition you must be:
(a) an indigene of Delta State with a verifiable LGA.
(b) 13 years old or over at the time of entry.
Competitions are not open to employees of the following organisations: Bincom ICT Solutions.
No purchase or cost necessary to enter competition.
If you want to enter the competition you may enter via the website on the applicable competition page.
Sending an e-mail is not proof that we have received your entry. No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are lost or delayed, or which are not received for any reason. Entries must be made on the website only. Only shortlisted entries ( in phase 3) will be published to the unduaghan facebook page.
If you win a competition, we will notify you by phone and e-mail. The judges’ decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
By entering the competition the winner agrees to participate in such promotional activity and material as we may require.
The prize will not be transferable to another person.
No part of a prize is exchangeable for cash or any other prize.
If an advertised prize is not available, we reserve the right to offer an alternative prize of equal or greater value.
Incorrectly completed entries will be disqualified.
