US Embassy in Algiers Second Annual Writing Competition (Algeria)

Deadline: 30 September 2011

Teenage students will be competing against one another as the US embassy in Algiers runs its second annual writing competition in co-ordination with the Algerian Muslim Scouts on the theme of religious dialogue.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday (August 2nd), the US Embassy in Algiers explained the submission guidelines: "Texts may focus on international or national issues relating to the subject, on historical perspectives or on a personal experience through which participants shall describe the concept, role, form and aim of interfaith dialogue in the modern world."

The contest is intended for Algerian secondary school students between the ages of 15 and 18. All submissions – accepted in Arabic, French or English – must be in by September 30th.

A judging panel made up of religious figures and journalists will select the winning articles and their writers who will receive awards at a prize-giving ceremony to be held at the US Ambassador's residence in Algiers. The top three papers will be published in national news.
