Astana International Action Film Festival Screenplay and Short Film Competition is an annual contest established by director Timur Bekmambetov and the city of Astana to identify and nurture the best and brightest emerging action filmmakers and writers.
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS
1) The submission will consist of a single Adobe PDF file labeled with the project’s title and writer’s name, including: a) A one-page action film proposal (font not smaller than 10), detailing the project’s logline, a two-paragraph synopsis and any key elements (tone, style, look, attachments, etc.) that the writer(s)/filmmaker(s) consider relevant to the project. b) NO SCRIPTS will be accepted at this stage of the process. c) All submissions must be written in English.
2) All submissions are accepted through our site by May 1, 2012 Submissions are not accepted by email or mail.
3) Submitted projects must be the unproduced, unoptioned, unencumbered and wholly original work of the writer(s). Other attached creative forces, such as a director and/or a producer can be included as part of the creative team. However, only one prize will be given and it will be the winners’ responsibility to distribute the prize. If the winners are unable to agree on the distribution of a prize, the project will be disqualified.
4) All contestants must be at least 18 years of age and shouldn’t have any produced scripts.
5) Semi-‐finalists will be directly notified no later than May 15, 2012
6) The selected semi-‐finalists will submit, upon notification a full feature script in English.
7) Finalists will be notified by June 1, 2012 All finalists will submit upon notification a signed copy of an option/purchase agreement with Timur Bekmambetov’s production company, conditional upon winning the prize, for the submission under 6) above. Failure to sign this form will disqualify the finalist from competition.
8) One representative of each finalist project will travel to the Astana International Action Film Festival (July 1-‐July 3, 2012 in Astana, Kazakhstan) to workshop the project and pitch to industry judges. The Festival will provide travel (economy class), visa and accommodations for the finalists. Ultimate selection as a finalist is subject to the contestant’s availability to travel on the Festival dates and visa approval.
9) An industry panel of judges will select the winner among the finalist projects. The decisions by the judges will be final. 10) The winning project will receive a $10,000 USD option from Timur Bekmambetov’s production company to develop the project as a feature film.
