DStv Online wishes to appoint dynamic, innovative individuals to manage the editorial operations for the DStv.com online TV guide. This position is targeting Indian, African and coloured candidates. There are 2 vacancies: 1 focusing on Kenya/East Africa and 1 on Nigeria/West Africa.
CONTEXT
DStv Online is a demanding, deadline-driven division of DStv, merging the new media departments of M-Net, DStv and SuperSport. Its objective is to reinvent television for a rapidly developing, broadband-enabled, on-demand world. DStv.com's multi-platform TV guide provides daily highlights and recommendations across all television genres and channels. The guide is distributed to the on-air electronic programme guide, the DStv.com website, partner websites and will be available on mobile and other electronic devices. The guide will cover linear television programming as well video-on-demand and will be integrated with social networks.
CUSTOMERS
The web editors will report to the Senior Web Editor, DStv.com. Editorial content will be supplied for all DStv channels, and provided to the DStv business as well as external partners.
OUTPUTS
1. Write TV Highlights (movies, local/African series and shows, news, sport, free to air channels)
2. Write news stories
- Contribute original news articles per week around programming.
- Source entertainment news from the continent
- Re-write from the web
- Revise and upload content supplied by contributors. Have knowledge enough to fact check and upload.
- Promote Original shows
3. Planning and implementation
4. Revise and upload content supplied by TV channels
5. Social Media
- Follow as a source of news.
- Provide content for social media updates.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Knowledge of territories / markets to some extent, need to immerse themselves in those channels.
- Knowledge of free to air channels in these markets
- Knowledge of what people are watching and talking about
- Proven ability to write engaging clean copy quickly
- Proven use of social media and internet
- Web writing experience would be an advantage
