Voice of America (VOA), a publicly-funded multimedia news agency, is seeking multimedia stringer correspondents in North Africa, the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula for its Middle East Division (English language). We are looking for versatile individuals to complement our staff reporting in Washington, D.C., Cairo and Jerusalem. We are focused extensively on the Arab Spring, political developments in the region, upcoming elections, political Islam and the experience of Arab Americans.
Stringer correspondent candidates should have:
- Deep contact list of sources in the Middle East especially in their subregion
- The ability to build new sources via phone, Twitter, Facebook and Google+
- The ability to tweet and share story developments as they happen
- The ability to file in-depth articles for web, shoot online video and file radio phoners and reports
- The ability to conduct Skype video liveshots with our DC producers from PC or phone
- The ability to take photos and HD videos from a camcorder or smartphone and transmit them to Washington, D.C., for editing
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to think outside of the “old media” box, take initiative with individual stories and guide them to completion.
