Guaranty Trust Bank - Omololu Falobi Foundation's One-Day Investigative Reporting/ Journalism Workshop (Nigeria)

In its effort to enhance reporting and investigative skills of journalists, Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, in conjunction with Omololu Falobi Foundation will hold a one-day interactive skills development and capacity building workshop for journalists in Lagos. The workshop, conducted with technical assistance from Innate Communications, will hold at Topaz Hall, Sustainability Training Centre at Elephant House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

The workshop is aimed at contributing to the growth of professional journalism in Nigeria through in-creasing the media proficiency of journalists and providing them with expertise and skills needed for in-vestigative and award winning reporting. Participants will also be enlightened on the use of Freedom of Information, FOI, Act to conduct investigative reporting.

The workshop sessions shall be facilitated by experienced media professionals including, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, renowned media trainer and journalist. Otufodunrin was former group News Editor of Punch Newspaper and present Online Editor of the Nation Newspaper. He is an Alfred Friendly Fellow and an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, UNILAG. Aside verse knowledge in journalism practice, he shall be sharing, amongst others, new media skills and insights from a recent training at the Poynter Journalism Institute, Florida, USA.

Mr. Lanre Arogundade, former Lagos State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and Director of the International Press Centre, IPC, shall share knowledge on investigative reporting tips to enhance development reporting. The workshop, aimed at providing a forum to update journalists with career development resources and information, new skills and trends, as well as create a platform for practical experience between resource persons and participants, shall also have a session on how journalists can use the FOI law for investiga-tive reports, facilitated by the Media Rights Agenda, MRA.

Participation in the workshop is free, but with limited space.
