POSITION DESCRIPTION:
FHI 360's South Africa Umbrella Grants Management (UGM) program administers and supports USAID selected grantees in implementation of HIV/AIDS programs under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The program includes (1) provision of grants to USAID/PEPFAR partners that ensures adequate resource flow; (2) provision of ongoing capacity building in organizational development and HIV prevention, care and support, and treatment service delivery and (3) implementation of effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting (MER) systems to assess and document activities.
Under the direction of the Chief of Party, the Editor will work with the project team to develop content and serve as the final editor for project technical reports, publications, newsletters, training materials and presentations. S/he will also be responsible for writing and reviewing content for internal and external UGM communications. Provide capacity building support to UGM staff and partner organization staff in report writing.
This position will be part-time at 60% level of effort.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Provide editorial support to the UGM program’s technical, programmatic and financial staff ranging from substantive editing and re-writing to copy editing, including project deliverables and reporting to USAID.
- Work with UGM program staff to document project learnings, promising practices, results and activities for use in internal and external communication efforts, including submission of conference abstracts, newsletters and lessons learned documents.
- Work with the monitoring and evaluation team to conduct workshops with UGM partners on effective report writing.
- Work with program staff to repackage capacity building material needed to reach other audiences.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree plus 10 years of experience; Knowledge of USAID and PEPFAR reporting requirements is strongly preferred; Proven experience working in international development. Preferred experience with U.S.-funded HIV/AIDS and other public health programs; Familiarity with Chicago and Associate Press style and other editing conventions is desired; Experience in journalism preferred; Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously; Demonstrated skills in writing, editing and effective targeting of written materials to various audiences; Experience in dissemination of information to wide audiences; Acute attention to detail required; Strong consultation skills (diagnostic, assessment, delivery) essential; Ability to work independently with limited supervision; Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with a variety of people and organizations.
