Job Opening: Deputy/ Features Editor for Fresh Living (South Africa)

Fresh Living is looking for an experienced journalist with solid editing and managing experience to join its team in Cape Town. The position requires someone who is creative and organised to assist the editor.

Responsibilities include:

• forward planning and generating ideas for editorial content;
• holding regular features meetings;
• commissioning articles from freelance and in-house writers, and writing some articles yourself;
• ensuring that covers and stories are presented in a compelling way;
• editing and re-writing articles to ensure consistency of editorial tone is maintained;
• managing staff;
• working closely with editor on brand extensions;
• liaise with sales division on features;
• raising the profile of the magazine, including networking with others at industry events;
• assisting other staff to meet their deadlines.

The ideal candidate will:

• be a strong content editor and writer with meticulous attention to detail;
• have excellent people and process management skills;
• display diplomacy in all communication;
• be a motivational team leader;
• professionally handle stress, and work effectively and efficiently under pressure;
• demonstrate creative initiative and passion for the brand;

An interest in food and wine will be a plus, as will a sense of humour.
