Job Opening: Assistant Editor for RISKSA Magazine and City Magazine (COSA Communications, South Africa)

COSA Media, which publishes trade magazine RISKSA (www.risksa.com), is seeking to recruit an assistant editor to join its busy team. This is a senior position and he or she will have a passion for business journalism, feature writing, analysis and news gathering. They will be able to hit the ground running and delve deep into the insurance sector to produce exclusive and interesting financial stories in print and online.

The successful candidate will be comfortable searching out information in company accounts, interviewing CEOs and other major decision makers in the industry and have great editing and writing skills to boot. He or she will also be able to build contacts at senior levels within the insurance industry.

We are looking for someone to drive business coverage across RISKSA’s magazine and website. They must be able to produce original story ideas and source stories of local and international content.

The successful applicant will also be required to work extensively on CITY Magazine, a monthly consumer title. Responsibilities include content planning; researching and writing original features; liaising with external stakeholders; working hand-in-hand with the sales and marketing departments; briefing freelancers and staff writers; sub-editing copy and generating headlines, blurbs and captions; and other general editorial duties.

Additionally, the successful applicant will contribute to and edit COSA Media’s other titles, which include TaxTalk, and RISKAFRICA.

Experience of financial or general news journalism on a B2B publication, local or national newspaper, is a strong advantage. Entrants must have at least two to five years experience writing for a financial consumer or trade publication (print or online). Candidates must also possess a relevant diploma/degree in journalism/media studies.
