Department Overview:

The Audience Team focus is to ensure the delivery of brilliant daily experiences. Our leitmotif is “The right thing, on the right place, at the right time”. The team will support the need for localization and production tasks that are critical for the right product experience. The team is also responsible for defining the editorial voice and ensuring that it is performed in all markets.

We're looking for a creative and versatile Senior News Editor for Yahoo! Middle East. The ideal candidate will have a good background in the online Media industry, excellent editorial skills, a feel for the types of content that are successful on the Web, a thorough grasp of the competitive landscape and a passion for and an understanding of news, entertainment and popular culture in general. You should be flexible, quick-thinking, energetic, efficient, and able to work independently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, for interacting with fellow editors and employees throughout Yahoo!

Responsibilities:

* Supervise a team of editors to populate Yahoo!’s News pages with its subcategories: business, entertainment and sports… etc with fresh, compelling and relevant content and making sure that our mobile pages offer a matching experience
* Maintain events diary and planning and executing event programming in consultation with producers and editors within the region.
* Making relevant editorial choices, crafting appealing headlines and teaser copy, choosing and prepare appropriate imagery.
* Creat user experiences which encourage repeat use and adoption

* Understanding the Yahoo! audience, and its interests, and feeding these back into product plans and tactics
* Manage competing priorities, budgeting time
* Providing editorial support where required, particularly on ancillary or support service pages and instructional content
* Contribute ideas to the content and product development process
* Contribute ideas on commissioning and content acquisition to the managing editor and the business development team.
* Provide and edit articles and content on a daily basis, develop feature and special execution ideas.
* Meet targets and deliver on daily traffic performance indicators
* Work closely with internal sales, product and marketing teams as well as external content partners.
* Identify new content sources and support business development on content acquisition
* Reports to Editor in Chief for Yahoo! Arabic portal.

Requirements:

* Language skills: Fluent Arabic (written and spoken)
* Very good knowledge of modern standard Arabic grammar
* Experience in editing, re-writing in an Arabic media production environment.
* English highly competent (written and spoken)
* A solid grounding in basic principles of writing for the Web and editing experience in a dynamic online editorial environment (3 years of experience)
* A thorough understanding of editorial best practices and priorities
* A keen understanding of news, business, entertainment and popular culture
* Demonstrable headline writing, image selection and content packaging skills
* Experience with online publishing tools
* University degree or equivalent required
