New Media Publishing, the multi-award-winning publisher of contract magazines in South Africa, is seeking to appoint a deputy editor to work in the newsletter division of one of their biggest accounts, MultiChoice. This is a challenging position for a highly organised and creative journalist who has a passion for people, television, sport and entertainment.
The successful applicant should have:
• Should have relevant tertiary qualification
• Minimum four years' experience in an editorial environment
• Excellent writing and subbing skills in English
• Creative, conceptual approach to editorial challenges
• Ability to work closely with editor and art directors to realise a creative vision
• Ability to respond creatively and strategically to client briefs
• High level of computer literacy, including: Internet and InDesign
• good administrative skills and an eye for detail
• Ability to work independently, under pressure, to very tight deadlines
Responsibilities will include:
• Liaising with the editor regarding the planning and production of each issue
• Liaising closely with several clients
• Organising and participating in planning/brainstorming meetings
• Commissioning contributors and co-ordinating the production process and photographic shoots with clients and freelance teams
• Preparing and sourcing copy and images for layout
• Writing, rewriting, subbing and proofreading
• Keeping to strict deadlines and budgets
• Other administrative tasks to do with managing the contract
• Working on other publications within NMP if required to
