Weg/go!, South Africa's leading travel title, has a vacancy for a dynamic web journalist to maintain and develop both websites as well as produce multimedia content in English and Afrikaans.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the websites and ensure that they are updated regularly with fresh content
• Package content from the magazine as well as reader-generated content for use on the websites
• Enrich content with pictures, videos and competitions
• Write travel-related snippets and news
• Take responsibility for the electronic newsletters
• In conjunction with the Head: Digital Content, enrich the websites by coming up with new ideas for content
• Expand the Weg/go! social media network on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as the site forum
• Engage closely with this online community
• Generate content for the magazines from online polls and discussion forums
• Collaborate with the marketing team and the Head: Digital Content to implement marketing and promotional activities that will increase traffic to the websites and subscriptions for the magazines
• Work on special projects
• Broaden the digital presence of the magazines in line with specific targets as determined by the Publisher in conjunction with the Head: Digital Content
Requirements:
• A tertiary qualification in journalism
• A minimum of three years' experience in online journalism
• An interest in online journalism and all facets of the Web
• A thorough knowledge of social media platforms and how to manage them
• The ability to meet deadlines in a calm and effective way
• The ability to work effectively in a bilingual working environment (Afrikaans and English)
• The ability to work independently, but also as a team member
