An established and ever-growing publishing company looking for a Managing Editor to join its dynamic editorial team.
In this role you will be responsible for:
• Editing two of the Group's magazines;
• Managing the day to day responsibilities of these magazines.
• Editorial research and writing;
• Following up on content planned for the month; draw up flatplans, get copy, pics and captions in;
• Evaluating the flow of articles, final check of dummy mag and coordinating last minute corrections;
• Managing timelines and editorial budgets;
• Commissioning of freelance writers;
• Assist with picture research;
• Administrative tasks as and when needed;
• Assist in subbing of other magazine when required;
• Work closely with other departments to increase visibility and profitability
of these magazines.
Requirements
• Minimum five years experience in a senior editorial role an absolute must, preferably in a magazine publishing environment.
• A relevant tertiary qualification.
• A thorough understanding of editorial and layout processes.
• An excellent command of the English language. Proficiency in Dutch would be highly advantageous.
• Have a good hold over writing styles and capable of producing effective content.
• Excellent general knowledge and a firm grasp of current news.
• Proactive, motivated and enthusiastic.
• Excellent organiser, planner and with attention to detail.
• An eye for detail and quality.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal),
• The ability to handle deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
• An understanding of forward planning in the magazine environment.
• The ability to work independently but as part of a team.
• An even temperament and the ability to work under pressure and deal with diverse personalities and situations.
• An understanding of media sales and circulation.
• A valid driver's license and own transport.
• Computer Literate. Knowledge of editorial content management systems preferred.
• Willingness to work longer hours and attend evening and weekend events where needed.
