    Responsibilities:

    * Manages and provides content for special editorial and sales driven initiatives and channels. These range from editorial news seasonal projects to niche products such as cars and travel.

    Main Purpose of the Role

  • Job Opening: Associate Editor for Men's Health (South Africa)

    Men's Health requires a qualified and skilled associate editor reporting directly to the editor, and based at Media24 Health's offices in Cape Town.

    Key Performance Areas:

    1. Edit and project manage the upfront section of the magazine (Malegrams) by conceptualising, writing, commissioning and editing all the content. It requires planning three months in advance, and constant coordination of art and visual requirements with the design team.
    2. Maintain and increase the South African content of the magazine by repurposing international Men's Health story ideas and writing original content pertinent to SA men as required.
    3. Assist the online editor by creating and editing content daily across all digital media (website and social media), always ensuring the content is compelling and on-brand.
    4. Write across all the Men's Health core editorial pillars as required.
    5. Contribute to the Men's Health editorial planning and ideas generation in set, monthly meetings with the senior editors. The incumbent will be expected to pitch a minimum of two original content ideas per meeting, and to help find new contributors for the magazine.
    6. Meet monthly copy deadlines.

    Job Responsibilities:

    a. To create, co-ordinate and edit all front-of-book Malegrams content. The writer will be responsible for the veracity and thoroughness of everything written and researched to make sure the final draft is benefit journalism of the highest standard.
    b. To localise or rework syndicated copy as and when required. The incumbent must be prepared to investigate, research and rewrite articles across the core editorial pillars.
    c. Contribute regularly on the Men's Health website, across related social media platforms and associated digital feeds by updating, writing and uploading content to MH.co.za.

    MAIN DUTIES

    1.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST 2012

    Foreign Affairs publishes articles by today's leaders and thinkers that tackle the most pressing issues in international relations. We want to give tomorrow's leaders the opportunity to demonstrate innovative thinking on the issues that shape their world. In the third annual Foreign Affairs Essay Contest, one undergraduate's essay will be chosen by the readers to be published on the Foreign Affairs Web site. The winner will also receive a prize of $500, and five honorable mentions will receive a free year-long subscription to Foreign Affairs.

    Entries must be submitted by August 1, 2012.

    ESSAY TOPIC

    How much did U.S. foreign policy change after the last election and how much will it change after this one?

    WRITING GUIDELINES

    Submissions should be between 1,200 and 1,500 words. All quotations or uncommon facts should be appropriately cited. Entries must be original, unpublished work written by contestants themselves.

    ELIGIBILITY

    Open to all undergraduate students of accredited colleges and universities graduating no earlier than May 2012.

    SUBMISSIONS

    Only one essay is allowed per participant. Please send entries to FAEssay@cfr.org. For your essay to be considered, it must be both pasted in the body of the e-mail and attached as a Word document. Your entry should include your name, phone number, e-mail address, institution of enrollment, and a scanned copy of your student identification or other proof of enrollment.

    Every person who submits an essay to FAEssay@cfr.org will be entered in the contest. All entries must be received by 11:59 PM on August 1, 2012, and entries must be completed in full to be eligible. Submissions shorter than 1,200 words or longer than 1,500 words will be automatically disqualified.

    Submissions sent by mail will not be accepted.

    SELECTION OF WINNER

    Entries will be evaluated and chosen by the Foreign Affairs editorial staff using the same evaluation methods and quality control standards required of authors. Decisions of the editorial team are final. The editorial staff will choose the top three entries and publish them on ForeignAffairs.com, whereupon readers will be able to vote for their favorite essay. The entry with the most votes will be named the winner of the 2012 Foreign Affairs Essay Contest.

  • The £1,000 Burlington International Contemporary Writing Prize 2012

    The Burlington Contemporary Writing Prize, to be awarded annually, seeks to discover talented young writers on contemporary art. The Prize winner will receive £1000, and will have the opportunity to publish a review of a contemporary art exhibition in The Burlington Magazine.

    Submissions requirements

    Applicants must submit one unpublished review of a contemporary art exhibition, no more than 1000 words in length (and may be illustrated if desired). The submitted review must be written in English, although the art considered may be international. Applicants must be under the age of 30 (proof of age may be required). Entries must be emailed as a Word document - clearly stating the name, age, country of residence and occupation of the applicant - to editorial@burlington.org.uk

    Deadline

    The submission deadline for the 2012 Prize is Tuesday 31st January 2012.
